  • Looking back it’s hard to believe I’m now approaching my 20th year working in the construction industry. I have been extremely lucky to work with some amazing colleagues and for a fantastic range of clients during this time. I have delivered projects across all sectors, ranging from small bespoke designs to large £150m+ multi-use schemes. I have always prided myself on my personable approach which has served me well both internally and externally alike. I truly believe that as people are central to every decision you must invest in them. Learning to listen is the best way to ensure everyone’s needs are not only met but hopefully exceeded.

I still love to solve problems so can never resist joining in when one presents itself, fortunately engineering is the perfect career for the problem solvers out there. I’ve been brought up to look at the world in a no-nonsense way which helps me to simplify the complex and provide pragmatic solutions. I have certainly noted the simple approach is always the most appreciated as it is buildable, carries the least risk and is therefore often the most cost effective.

I am extremely passionate about engineering and in my continual quest to provide both the perfect company for our team and the perfect experience for clients.

Outside of work I still love all sport related activities ranging from golf (the imperfectible game), running (slower by the day), football (for the veterans now but still going), rock climbing (being shown up by my children) and more recently open water swimming (cold but revitalising). I think I seek the physical challenge to counteract the daily mental challenge and it certainly works for me. All of this activity aside I still love long dog walks with my beautiful family and nothing beats a good Sunday dinner and bottle of wine!

  • I started life on the drawing board, yes, hours of printing practice, often accompanied with many bent Rotring pen nibs, especially the 0.18 thickness!

I now have over 30 years of experience within Engineering Consultancy from apprentice to Business Director. I am extremely proud to have delivered some of the most significant and challenging schemes in the Midlands such as playing a leading role in the £400Million Arena Central Development in Birmingham which included demolition of the former Carlton television Studio, at risk of giving my age away, goodbye Tiswas! To make way for new development including a new Headquarters for HSBC. Complicated by the fact that it needed to be constructed on top of the West Coast Mainline out of New Street Station. Other notable projects include the:-

    • £150million Resorts World mixed use development at the NEC Birmingham

    • £40million Conkers in Leicestershire

    • £50million Severn Trent Headquarters in Coventry

I offer expertise across all Construction Sectors but with a particular specialism in the Health, Commercial, Residential and Industrial schemes. I am passionate about Engineering always with an eye to simplifying the complex, Environmental and sustainability is at the heart of all that I do and I still use my local milkman to deliver my milk in glass bottles. I remain ‘hands on’ approachable, honest, practical and pragmatic and outside of the office I love playing, coaching and supporting rugby, live music of all genres, except for jazz not a huge fan sorry jazz fans, long walks with my faithful, if a little bit bonkers, Golden Retriever, nature and country pubs.

  • I’ve now spent over 25 years as a civil and structural engineer/consultant and I admit to feeling truly lucky to have found a career and an industry that is fulfilling, challenging, and so positive. My parents always say that as a child I preferred to knock things down than to build them, but I maintain that I was just doing the enabling stage in readiness for my blossoming design skills!

As a profession we actually change the skyline of our towns and cities and provide vital infrastructure for society to function and thrive. I thoroughly enjoy the early stages of a project when we can provide key input and ideas to assist our client’s and their professional team shape the masterplan and concepts to create buildings and new spaces that make a difference.

It is equally important to me that all of our clients are happy and positive about the work we have done and our engagement throughout the time we have worked together.

I would say that in no way do I have an ‘ego’ to make every project an award winning masterpiece. Every project has a budget and a set of critical parameters that we need to work within, and I would like to think I will always be mindful of working to solve the engineering issues in the most economic manner.

However, I do believe that we have a much greater responsibility to the planet and environment. We need to help our clients understand how we can progress from the products and practices we have traditionally used, to promote research and development into alternative materials and methodologies, and push our peers and teams to collectively make a difference!

Director, Head of Transport Planning

  • Having started my professional Transport Planning career in 2002, I’ve really enjoyed helping to deliver a wide range of outstanding developments, award winning sustainable travel schemes and pioneering Transport Planning and Highway Design policies during my time in both the private and public sectors.

I’m a Chartered Transport Planning Professional, Fellow at the Institute for Highways and Transportation and Director of Transport Planning at Hexa Consulting. I lead the delivery of our national Transport Planning service and team of experienced and approachable Transport Planners and Highway Engineers. Working alongside our Drainage, Civils and Flood Risk engineers, I’ll provide the focal point for initial site feasibility assessments, design and planning submission work, along with discharging conditions along the way.

Since returning to the private sector after 9 years in Local Authority, I’ve overseen the successful delivery of a wide range of schemes across all sectors and scales. I’ve helped deliver thousands of new homes and apartments, hundreds of new schools, colleges and university buildings, hospitals, multi-storey car parks, research laboratories, leisure centres, commercial, retail and business premises and sustainable energy generation schemes such as solar farms and waste to energy centres to name but a few!

I’ve also supported a number of successful land allocation projects, developed highway infrastructure improvements schemes, public transport, walking and cycling priority schemes and provided representations at Planning Committee meetings an expert witness at Planning Appeals. At the heart of my approach to delivery is understanding exactly what our partners need and advising on the simplest way to achieve this. Yes what we do can get complicated, but that’s my problem not yours!

When I’m not ‘counting cars’ as my friends would say, I’m probably spending time with my family and living vicariously through my kids’ sporting, dance and drama achievements.

Director

  • I have always had an interest in how things are built. From an early age, pulling things apart and reconstructing is something I would spend hours doing… long before iPads or video games could pull my concentration in other directions. I was also lucky enough to have great mentor in my father, who showed from a very early age the sheer breadth of careers and opportunities that exist in the construction industry.

I now have more than 20 years of working in the construction industry, specialising in Civil and Structural Engineering and have loved every minute. Having started off drawing and detailing on drawing boards, I was taught from my very first day that clear, well presented and detailed drawings are the cornerstone of quality engineering. I quickly moved through the levels of engineering design and was, in 2009, asked to move away from Nottingham to base myself in Yorkshire and run an office in Leeds and eventually in Manchester too.

Now based in York with my young family, I am lead for Hexa in the North. I am focused on bringing director-led senior experience directly to clients and projects – and to furthering our business growth in the region. My decades of experiences in the built environment have given me a reputation for people-orientated leadership, quality engineering and high performing design teams, along with an inner drive for championing diversity and inclusion within the built environment. We can do more as an industry to showcase careers and opportunities to everyone - no matter who you are or where you come from, you can come and succeed in the built environment.

Away from work, you’ll find me on the lanes and hills of Yorkshire on my bike. A fantastic way of getting some fresh air, destressing, staying healthy and discovering hidden gems in the fantastic county that I'm now lucky enough to call home.

Group Business Manager

  • I have spent a large chunk of my career in an administrative capacity, it is something I have always been drawn to and always enjoyed. I have recently joined the Hexa family from a large engineering consultancy practice where I worked as Office Manager and Business Development Assistant. I have worked alongside many of the Hexa team for many of those years and understand how they tick as people and what makes a successful practice work!

It is up to me to ensure that the Hexa Office runs smoothly and that our team have a happy, safe and productive environment to work in! My role within the Hexa team is extremely varied but includes providing support to the Directors enabling them to focus on driving the Hexa business forward, liaising with and sourcing suppliers, welcoming new team members, HR and IT and perhaps most importantly making sure we never run out of milk or coffee!

When not in full work mode, I love spending precious time with my husband, family and grandchildren! I love nothing more than walking in the countryside and around my adopted home, the Lake District. I have also been known to put on a pair of trainers and go for a run when the mood takes me! To relax I love to potter in my garden and have recently found the joy of furniture restoration, and by restoration, I mean I paint or sand and oil it!
